Mortgage activity jumps on low rates

According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, for the week ending March 6, mortgage loan application volume increased 11.3 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis. Both the purchase and refinance indexes increased over the previous week, as consumers responded to lower mortgage rates.

30-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 4.89% from 4.96%.
